WORKSHOPS

Sima Perfoming Arts is committed to providing students of all ages and levels who have a desire to dance with a distinguished program based on contemporary dance practice.

Whilst a continued specialism in Contemporary Dance is preferred for the workshops schedule, Sima hosts a company of professional dancers with skills and training ranging across various dance & art forms. Sima’s program can therefore meet a broader requirement for the Dubai community in its programmed workshops.

Contemporary dance

We develop a unique contemporary dance practice which blends artistic influences from around the World to reflect the culture and history of the Middle East. We aim to involve our students in the process of the making of an art form that is particular to this region characterized by the fusion of multicultural differences. Classes start with warm up & stretching, followed by strengthening & cardio exercises. In the second half of the class we work on contemporary technique combos and then study a unique choreography prepared by Alaa Krimed  & Lana fahmi for a period of 4 sessions.

Classical Ballet

The base of all dance forms taught in a more relaxed atmosphere. Class follows a typical protocol: starting at the barre and moving to the center, ballet steps are explained with their proper nomenclature and carefully studied with the objective to improve the dancer’s posture, flexibility, musicality and technique. The instructor  -Amanda Amodeo – completed with distinction her graded syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dance in São Paulo – Brazil. She has ever since participated in international dance competitions and in repertoire performances with Estudio de Ballet Cisne Negro and Pavilhão D. More recently she fell in love with musical theatre and was casted as Nala and Eponine in productions of The Lion King and Les Miserables.

Floorwork Technique

This class will bring you to a deeper level of understanding body alignment, weight shifting, and release technique. Each exercise is precisely instructed and broken down allowing the student to visually understand the material before executing it. Students will develop core strength, new movement vocabulary and proper safety to execute tricks to, from, and on the floor. This class is a complement to any dance background. Long sleeves and pants are recommended. The instructor Amanda Carlson is an American choreographer, dancer, certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and athlete. She is the lead choreographer and co-producer of a number of shows and has taught dance in studios – including Broadway Dance Center – throughout New York City and Colorado.
